Take Heart

Matthew West writes "Take Heart" entirely in God's own voice rather than as a prayer directed upward — "so take heart, and take a breath, let me lift that heavy weight up off your chest, take my hand, I know it's lookin' dark... I won't let you fall apart." Every line of comfort is spoken, not requested.

"In this world you will have trouble, but I have overcome the world" quotes Jesus' own words to his disciples directly, repeated twice across the song as its central, load-bearing claim. "Fear stole the headlines, and it don't feel safe to even step outside your door" keeps the danger current and specific rather than a general statement about hardship.

"Do you remember singin' back when you were younger, he's got the whole world in his hands, well, that's still true" returns to a childhood song's simple claim and insists on its continued accuracy, closing the gap between a nursery-rhyme faith and an adult one facing something genuinely frightening.
