Where Would I Be?

Maverick City Music open with testimony rather than declaration: "I've got a testimony that I want you to know, I should be a dead man, but He saved this sinner's soul." The claim is specific and personal, not a general statement about grace.

"Some say it's impossible to do what He did, but look where I was and look where I am" treats the contrast itself as the evidence, rather than trying to argue the point abstractly. The chorus turns that testimony into a question repeated three times: "where would I be without Your mercy, Your grace, Your favor."

Paul's confession that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom he counted himself the worst, matches the song's own blunt self-assessment, and Moses' promise that God will never leave or forsake gives the bridge's repeated plea — "never let me go" — its exact source. "Your hand's in front of me, behind me, all around me" closes the song surrounded on every side by the same presence the testimony started by crediting.
