Maverick City Music opens with a direct paraphrase of Psalm 23 rather than a modern image: "as I walk through the valley of darkness and shadows, even in death I will not fear, because there's more that follows." The ancient psalm's confidence gets carried into the present tense without much translation needed.


"We are pressed on every side, but we won't be shaken, come what will, come what may, we are not forsaken" names real pressure honestly before answering it — the song doesn't claim the pressure isn't real, just that it doesn't have the final word.
