Heal Our Land

Despair is described bluntly in the opening verse: "a world where we're losing hope," where "life has us on the ropes," and "hate running rampant" while "every man out for his own." Maverick City Music frames that as a loss of direction, with "the distance grows every day," and then reaches for a promise, the pre-chorus, which quotes God as saying that if "we turn from our wicked ways and humbled ourselves and pray and seek Your face, You'd give us grace."

The choruses answer in the posture that verse describes. "Here we are, abandoned hearts, on bended knees, with outstretched arms," the singers say, and ask, "God hear us from heaven, send us Your presence." The second chorus echoes the Lord's Prayer, "let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done," adding "let Your glory fall on Your daughters and sons."

A second verse resets the mood toward trust. "Summer and spring may pass, but winter and fall won't last," and "better is coming, I know," because God is "faithful to finish" what He started. The bridge keeps the request simple and repeated, "come and heal our land," and a tag moves into "come and move, we say yes to You." 2 Chronicles 7:14 is the source of the pre-chorus, Matthew 6:10 of the kingdom lines, and Philippians 1:6 of the promise to complete the work.
