Maverick City Music frames faith here as something heard about before it's confirmed, which is an unusual angle for a worship song: "I've heard rumors of a well that won't run dry, I've heard rumors of a love that never dies." The song starts with secondhand reports, not firsthand certainty.

"Is it true, is it true?" gets asked twice after each set of claims, treating doubt as a normal part of the process rather than something to rush past. The verses stack up secondhand testimony — wells, whispers, an "unrelenting grace" — before the chorus ever confirms any of it.

The confirmation, when it comes, is personal rather than doctrinal: "the evidence is everywhere, my confidence is growing, I'll testify, I will prophesy, I'll start rumors of my own." Jesus' promise of living water that becomes a well of water springing up to eternal life, and Isaiah's declaration that God has called his people by name, both sit behind the rumors this song set out to verify. The song ends by joining the chain of testimony it started by questioning.
