A Little Stronger Everyday

Michael W. Smith names his own past mistake bluntly rather than describing temptation in general terms — "I was throwin' away what I needed most, it was the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost, a little carnal knowledge is a dangerous thing, it'll eat a hole in the brain" — treating the trade as foolish rather than merely risky.

"I'd be the biggest fool in the whole universe to trade a heavenly blessing for a worldly curse" states the same point as plain arithmetic, and "I was a weaker man 'til I made my stand" credits a specific decision, not a gradual drift, for the change that follows.

"I'm running blind on the wheels of faith, moving to the beat of a heart that prays" admits the process still isn't fully clear-sighted even after the stand is made, and "ain't gonna find any help on the T.V., or written down on the pages of People Magazine" rules out the obvious cultural sources of advice before naming the one he trusts instead: "digging a little deeper into the Good Book now, for a little sacred advice." The closing repetition, "gettin' strong, a stronger now, every day," turns growth into an ongoing habit rather than a finished event.
