When Jesus Says Yes

The Mississippi Mass Choir sings “When Jesus Says Yes” as a declaration that no earthly refusal can overturn his answer. The opening line says it plainly: “When Jesus says yes, oh yes, no one can say no.” The choir adds that “our God is mightier than all our faults,” and that “when all has been said, He still has the last say.”

The verse repeats the central claim in different words: “What He closes or opens, no one can open or close.” The second half turns to promises, with a chain of short responses: “Oh Lord, His promises, oh yes and amen, everyone of them, He's careful to defend.” The closing words are a joyful comparison, “Can't nobody do me like Him.” The call-and-response between the lead voice and the choir moves the song along, and each repeated phrase lets the congregation answer in agreement. It is useful for those who feel a door has closed or who are waiting on a decision, since it puts the final word in God's hands, and it is sung with the energy that the choir is known for.

The One who opens and no one can shut is Revelation 3:7. All the promises being yes in Christ is 2 Corinthians 1:20, and the key that opens and shuts is Isaiah 22:22.
