In Christ Alone

Four verses trace the story of Jesus in order, and Natalie Grant sings each one as a statement of where she stands. The first names the foundation, "in Christ alone my hope is found, He is my light, my strength, my song, this Cornerstone, this solid Ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm," a picture drawn from 1 Peter 2:6.

The second verse is the incarnation and the cross: "who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe" echoes Colossians 2:9, and "till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied" matches 1 John 2:2. Then comes the claim that changes the singer's life, "for every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live."

The third verse covers the tomb and the resurrection, "light of the world by darkness slain, then bursting forth in glorious Day, up from the grave He rose again," and the last gives the result: "no guilt in life, no fear in death... no power of hell, no scheme of man can ever pluck me from His hand," from John 10:28. The song ends with a repeated vow, "here in the power of Christ I'll stand."
