Old Time Religion

NewWorldSon open with a direct challenge to the title phrase itself: "how can you call it old time religion, when it's right here and right now? Ain't nothing old about God's Holy Spirit." The song argues against its own title before the first verse is finished.

"He's the same today as yesterday, and evermore shall He be, He's gonna reign eternally" lifts Hebrews' claim about Jesus almost word for word, using it to make the opposite point the phrase "old time religion" usually implies — not something dated, but something constant.

"Go ask the children, young men and women, ask them if my Jesus is alive" turns the argument outward, pointing at present-day testimony rather than history, and "I've got a watch on, I know what time it is" keeps circling back to the same urgency: whatever this is, it isn't a relic. The song never quite settles on an alternate name for what it's describing — it just keeps insisting the old label doesn't fit.
