How Will They Know

NewSong's “How Will They Know” asks what people see when they watch a Christian live. The first verse says our lives are living pages of what we believe, and that every day the world judges the Savior by what it sees. Each day we write another paragraph, line by line, while people are watching and waiting to make up their minds.

The chorus is a series of direct questions. “How will they know? What will they remember? What will they see that is different in you? Will they find any answers in the gospel according to you?” The second verse gives a first answer: love for one another is the key to unlock the hearts of unbelievers and set them free. It adds that with every choice and situation, believers should remember those watching and let them see that strength comes from Jesus no matter the conditions. The ending says the people out there are searching and want to hear, and that the real question is whether they will see Jesus in the lives we live. The pop and rock arrangement is bright and the message is practical. It fits a youth meeting, a small group or a church sending-out time where the focus is on how everyday actions form a witness, and it keeps the emphasis on love as the sign people notice most.

Believers as a letter read by all is 2 Corinthians 3:2-3. Being known by love is John 13:35, and letting your light shine is Matthew 5:16.
