Look Up

NewSong addresses a listener worn down from the start: "You've been hurt in the battle," "you're at war with the truth," and promises made to yourself "vanished like words in the sand." Nothing in the verses offers a self-improvement plan. They say instead, "You don't have to try harder," because "you know you can't change yourself."

The chorus supplies the instruction, "Look up, your help comes from heaven," and then adds "from right where you are," so no cleanup is required first. Its closing line, "Grace goes deeper than you can fall," is repeated until it becomes the final word. The second verse widens the circle with "we've all been hurt by each other" and points to a Savior who "loves us all at our worst."

A late section names the fire, the flood and the moment when "your strength is all gone," then tells the listener to remember who is holding their hand. The opening of the chorus echoes Psalm 121:1-2, and the grace line recalls Romans 5:20.
