Reach Out, I'll Be There

NewSong reworks the well-known Four Tops song, keeping its familiar structure of comfort offered to someone in crisis: "if you feel that you can't go on, because all of your hope is gone, and your life is filled with much confusion."

"I'll be there, with a love that will shelter you, and I'll be there, with a love that will see you through" stays close to the original's promise, but the identity of the one making that promise shifts by the song's end.

"Come on, world, and reach out, reach out for me" widens the invitation past a single listener to everyone hearing it, echoing Jesus' own invitation to all who are weary and burdened to come to Him.

The arrangement's key change is a single inserted line right before the final chorus — "Jesus said..." — which reframes everything sung after it. "I'll be there, to love and comfort you" becomes, in that light, less a general offer of friendship and more a specific promise never to leave or forsake.
