Energy comes first in "On My Way Up," a hip-hop and gospel mix that starts with a shout for a beat and a line about people calling the singer "crazy for believing in a place out there." Against that doubt she names her anchor: "Jesus is and I know will always be my bright and morning star," a title taken from Revelation 22:16.
The verses turn to the world around her. A "generation with nothing more to do than sit and wonder where we're headin'" is told "the future's not bleak, so why are you frettin'," and a later verse warns that without turning to Him "to darkness we give in."
