Sometimes

Nicole C. Mullen describes days that move too quickly to understand: running past herself, spinning like a merry-go-round, calling God’s name, and rising and falling with the tide. “Sometimes” does not hide the comic disorder either. Plans unravel, a foot gets caught, and one bad decision can feel like jumping from the pan into the fire.

Against that motion, the refrain fixes attention on God’s constancy. He is the same yesterday and tomorrow, good when circumstances cooperate and when they do not. The bridge widens the confession with biblical names—Alpha and Omega, beginning and end—before bringing it close again through the language of Father, brother, and best friend.

Hebrews 13:8 declares Jesus Christ unchanged across past, present, and future. Revelation 22:13 names him the Alpha and Omega, while Psalm 46:1 speaks of God as present help in trouble. Mullen’s lyric finds peace without pretending life is orderly: stability comes from the character of the One being called, not from control of the day.
