Beyond Us (Only True God)

Paul Baloche's "Beyond Us (Only True God)" holds two truths in tension: a God who is transcendent and a God who dwells within. The opening lines admit that even when God reveals himself, we only "see in part," yet the same mystery is described as close enough to make a home in human hearts. The chorus turns to the triune name—Father, Spirit, Son—and repeats the plain confession "only true God" as though repetition itself were the point. The second verse sharpens the paradox with its most striking image: a God enthroned above creation who nonetheless stoops to wash his followers' feet, majestic and humble at once, so holy that all creation bows when he speaks. The bridge gathers the whole arc into a few short lines—God of all things, God who saves, God within—before landing again on the bare declaration "You are God." The song is less an argument than an act of worship, content to name what cannot be fully explained and to let the mystery stand.
