We Are Saved

The song opens with a question of comparison — who could possibly match the Son of God who stretched out his arms on the cross — and answers it by pointing to a love that gave everything to win human hearts. That crucified posture becomes the fixed center of the lyric: the congregation keeps returning to the line about standing amazed at the work of the cross, as if the wonder never wears off. From there the song moves into declaration, repeating that sin has been forgiven and every chain broken, so the refrain of being saved lands less as a doctrine to argue and more as a shout of relief. A later verse turns toward the grave and shame, describing a God who makes a way where none existed and who stands by grace alone rather than by anything the singer brings. The bridge lifts the focus upward, asking that Jesus be lifted higher forever while confessing a debt that cannot be repaid. Simple, repetitive, and built for singing together, the whole piece circles one idea — that salvation is something received with astonishment rather than achieved — and it closes where it began, with the congregation simply standing amazed.
