Teach Me To Be Still

People & Songs keep this one short and repetitive by design — "teach me to be still, teach me to lay down, I give up all my strength and lay my armor on the ground." The request reaches for Psalm 46:10's command, "be still, and know that I am God," admitting that stillness isn't automatic even for someone who already believes the theology behind it.

"Show me how to rest on the altar of Your will" echoes Romans 12:1's instruction to present the body as "a living sacrifice," an altar image applied here to rest rather than only active service. "I know that You are God but teach me to be still" keeps the song's honesty intact — correct belief named directly, and admitted as insufficient on its own to produce the stillness being asked for.
