Touched By A Fire

People & Songs perform “Touched by a Fire,” a worship song about a changed life that cannot stay private. The first verse says “Jesus blinded all my darkness, He sparked my heart within,” and that his “grace and mercy lit a passion” that “consumed my sin.” The fire is a picture of what God does inside a person, not something the singer produces.

The second verse turns that inward change outward: “Now like a city on a hilltop, I'll shine through the night. I am a lamp made for His glory, I will not hide.” The chorus invites onlookers, “Let the world come and watch me burn, shout it from the rooftops, shout it till everyone has heard.” The third verse says this love “will never be extinguished,” and the bridge adds that the holy fire is burning inside and “I cannot keep it quiet.”

The city on a hill and the lamp are Matthew 5:14-16. A fire that cannot be held in is Jeremiah 20:9, and the Spirit's flames at Pentecost are in Acts 2:3-4.
