Good News

Petra sets the everyday backdrop of bad news first in "Good News" before offering an alternative — "it's just the same thing every day, it's only bad news coming my way, another war, there's a film at eleven, another crime from the heart of man." The routine of consuming discouraging headlines is named specifically before the song responds to it.

"I can sit here with my lock on the door, change the channel as I try to ignore, or get ready with shoes on my feet and start dancing to another beat" presents a real choice between two responses rather than assuming everyone already knows which one to pick. "The world is spinning like it's out of control, there's only one thing that can save the soul" keeps the claim specific rather than vaguely optimistic.

"The world needs to hear good news of the love of God's Son, every life can be changed by the hearing of what He's done" closes the song by quoting Paul's own logic from Romans about hearing and believing, treating the news itself as the actual mechanism of change.
