Never Say Die

A pep talk for someone ready to quit begins "Never Say Die." Petra describes a person "tossing in your sleep," thinking "all the promises you made that you couldn't keep," and feeling "sorry for yourself, think He's done with you, had Him on the shelf." The fatigue in the second verse is of "running the race, straying to and fro, falling on your face."

The hook argues against giving up: "never say die, no, you've come too far to turn back now. Give it one more try and He'll help you through." The next line explains who does the work, "we are weak but He is strong and strength He will supply when you ask Him to," which fits 2 Corinthians 12:9.

The second verse is about failure, "you went wrong, you remember when, instead of pressing toward the mark you missed it once again," a nod to Philippians 3:14. The temptation is to "tuck your tail and run," but the lyric says to "see Him waiting there for you with arms wide open," like the father in Luke 15:20, and ends with "press on, keep your hand upon that plow," a picture from Luke 9:62.
