Sight Unseen

Petra names its source directly — this song is built explicitly on Hebrews 11:6's claim that 'without faith it is impossible to please him' — and spends its verses working through a specific reversal most people get backwards. 'Thinking if I could see I would believe, then somebody said believe and you will see' inverts the usual order: proof isn't the precondition for faith here, faith is what produces the kind of seeing that matters.

'Sight unseen' as a phrase, borrowed from commerce (buying something without inspecting it first), gets repurposed as the whole shape of trust the song describes — 'trusting in things that can never be seen' isn't naive, per Hebrews 11:1's definition of faith as 'assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.' The closing lines turn from abstract argument to direct address — 'the nails in His hands and feet were meant for you' — landing the whole discussion of unseen faith on one very visible, historical fact: an actual crucifixion, meant personally.
