Speak To The Sky

Petra's “Speak To The Sky” has a note at the top of the lyrics naming its sources, Matthew 7:7-8 and Psalm 86:7, and the song is a plain translation of both into rock-radio language. The first verse paints someone stuck: “In a corner with no windows, no apparent way to go / No escape hatch, must be some catch.” The second pass is the same trap in spiritual terms, with temptation and an enemy “closing fast.”

The advice is short and physical. “Look down, look around, all your hopes are sinking deep into the ground,” the verse says, then reverses the direction: “Look up through the night, SOS is gonna make it to the light.” The chorus gives the instruction, “Speak to the sky and wait for the answer / Someone will be there to take your call,” and its last line, “you never will fall,” is the promise. For the second temptation verse the answer is “Fight insistence with resistance,” with a reminder that “it won't last.”

Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you,” and Psalm 86:7, “In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me,” give the chorus its picture of a call picked up on the other end.
