Buzzsaw
Song Meaning
A power tool becomes the picture of faith in motion. The singer vows to "cut through the dark like a buzzsaw," having "seen a light" and chosen to live "by a new law," a law of love, faith, and hope rather than fear. That grace comes from "the Ancient of Days," and the stance that follows is a fight against whatever "opposes God's Son."
The second section turns confrontational. Facing "a sword, a lying myth," the singer answers "in the Name of the Lord," echoing David's words to Goliath about the Lord of Hosts and the God of Israel. Authority is borrowed, not self-made: the one who defiled that name is the one being challenged.
The chorus gathers it into a command. "Darkness flee," "Demons flee at the sound of His Holy Name," and the captives are set free, with the cross named as the source of the singer's identity as a "child born of the Cross." First Samuel 17:45 and Daniel 7:9 supply the titles used, and Ephesians 6:12 frames the struggle as spiritual rather than against people.
Gonna cut through the dark like a buzzsaw
Seen a light gonna live by a new law
Got a gift of grace
From the Ancient of Days
Gonna cut through the dark like a buzzsaw
Law of love, gift of faith and a hope sure
Now I fight the one
Who opposes God's Son
You come against me with
A sword, a lying myth
I come to you in the Name of the Lord
For He's the Lord of Hosts
The God of Israel
And it is Him who you have defiled
Darkness flee
I'm a child born of the Cross
The warrior in me
Fights to save what which was lost
Demons flee
At the sound of His Holy Name
Set the captives free
Like a buzzsaw through a wall of flame
