Dance Now
Song Meaning
PlanetShakers keep this one almost entirely in motion, refusing to slow down long enough to explain itself. "I'm not holding back, I've got to give You praise" sets the tone before the song gets to any theology — the point here is response, not argument.
The chorus turns freedom into something physical rather than conceptual: "it's time to break off the chains, 'cause it's a brand new day... let's dance!" There's no verse working through doubt first; the whole song assumes the chains are already gone and just acts like it.
David danced before the Lord with everything he had, undignified by his own wife's standards, and the psalmist describes God turning mourning into dancing directly. Paul's declaration that Christ set people free for freedom itself, not to go back under a yoke, backs up the song's insistence that dancing isn't a distraction from worship here — in this song, it is the worship.
I'm not holding back
I've got to give You praise
With every part of me I'm breakin' out
I've got to let You know
That You're my everything
With every part of me I'll praise you now
And I will dance and sing
You know I'm gonna shout it out
For You my King
'Cause You are all I need now
It's time to get up and dance
'Cause we're free now
It's time to lift up your praise
And shout it out now
It's time to break off the chains
'Cause it's a brand new day
And everything is ok
Let's dance!
Dance now
Everybody shout now
Liftin' up our praise loud
Dancing in this freedom we know
