Our God Reigns

Planetshakers' “Our God Reigns” is a worship anthem about the cross and the empty tomb. It opens with the joy set before Jesus, the Savior who went to the cross to purchase freedom, trading its shame for glory, and the refrain is that Jesus reigns.

The second verse says death could not hold him down and that sin and the grave are forever defeated. The singer claims the victory as hers forever. The chorus then names him as Lord over all things, the Great I Am and the risen Son of man, the one who set his people free and is their victory. In the bridge the singers say the power of the cross has spoken, their sins are washed in his blood, heaven is open and redemption is theirs forever. The closing statement lists his authority, power and majesty and repeats that our God reigns. The words cover the main points of the gospel in a few lines, from the cross to the resurrection to the present reign, which makes the song a practical teaching tool as well as a shout of praise. Planetshakers is known for high energy, and the track builds with drums and a large crowd sound. It fits Easter services, conferences and any gathering where a church wants to celebrate the victory of Christ together.

Jesus enduring the cross for the joy set before him is Hebrews 12:2. The Lord God reigning is Revelation 19:6, and the Great I Am is Exodus 3:14.
