Set Me Free

Brief and focused, this Planetshakers lyric is only a few lines of prayer. It starts with what Jesus did, "Your love covers my sin and washes over me," then states the response, "Jesus, You died for me, so I will live for You, my God." The washing language is close to 1 John 1:7 on cleansing from sin.

The commitment becomes concrete in the middle: "I will lay down my life for the cause of the cross." The reason is stated in the next line, "because You laid down Your life to set me free," which draws on John 15:13 about laying down a life for friends and John 8:36 about being free indeed.

It also looks outward. The singer will not "try to ignore that Your heart's cry is the lost," and the line "I will go if You say go, and I will never give up" turns the song into a willingness to be sent, in the spirit of Mark 16:15.
