So Fresh

A river that runs deep, a well that won't run dry, rain on a dry and weary place: Planetshakers build "So Fresh" almost entirely from water pictures, and every one of them points to Jesus as the source. The chorus speaks to Him directly, "You refresh my soul," then rules out every other supply: "I'm not looking to anybody… With You I'll never run on empty."

The second verse moves from image to the personal. A heart that "still beats with faith" in a dry place, a countenance changed because His presence falls like rain. The bridge gathers the pictures under one claim, "In Your presence there's refreshing," with freedom, joy and "living water" running over, before the song settles into the repeated tag, "So fresh."

Scripture sits close behind the language. Jesus' words to the woman at the well about water that becomes a spring, His invitation in John 7 for the thirsty to come and drink, and the psalmist's line about fullness of joy in God's presence all lie under the imagery. It reads as a simple, repeatable declaration of dependence for anyone feeling run dry.
