How I Love You

Red Rocks Worship's “How I Love You” is written from the perspective of someone coming to be baptized. It begins, “Here I come with everything whole and everything broken within my soul,” and adds, “I won't wait another day to wash my sins away.” The singer speaks of a love “so pure” that it takes “all of my wrongs” and makes them God's own, giving “more than my mind and my desires hold.”

The second verse describes the walk to the water. “Memories rise, each step reminds me who I was and who You're making,” and the result is “soaking clean, I'm finally free.” The chorus names God as “the Hope of my life, lifter of our eyes,” and says, “In You, I've come alive. How I love You.” A later section looks ahead to difficulty, “when more trials come and the darkness steals the dawn,” and says the Holy Spirit is “my Peace forevermore.” The bridge states belief, “I believe You are who You say You are,” and the song ends with a promise to tell of God's goodness for all the singer's days.

Baptism as a new life is Romans 6:4. The new creation is 2 Corinthians 5:17, and freedom in the Son is John 8:36.
