Nothing To Buy

Rita Springer's “Nothing To Buy,” featuring Kalley, is sung in the voice of God inviting people to a free meal. The first verse says to come and sit at the table, whether weak or able, in a house with no discrimination. The speaker promises to teach trust, to take no hurry and to show the rhythms of grace.

The pre-chorus gives the central line: his yoke is easy, the weight is light, and there is no need for money because there is nothing to buy. The chorus says that it is free and that he has everything needed. The second verse tells the listener that no labor is needed and there is no striving for his favor, that comparison is not the way he dresses, and that he asks to be the Father who gives comfort. It adds that accomplishments are empty without rest. The bridge repeats that the pressure is off, no performance is needed, there are no strings attached, and the whole thing is not complicated. The relaxed groove and conversational lines fit a message about rest and grace, especially for people who feel exhausted by trying to earn God's approval. It suits a service on Sabbath rest, a retreat or a personal reset after a season of overwork, and it points back to the gospel offer that salvation cannot be purchased.

Coming to buy without money is Isaiah 55:1. The easy yoke is Matthew 11:28-30, and salvation as a gift is Ephesians 2:8-9.
