Inspiration
Song Meaning
A restless heart is addressed directly: wait a little while longer, because "heaven is holding out for you still." The instruction that follows is practical rather than lofty. Lay a hand on somebody's shoulder, and while you're here, show someone you care. The short refrain then defines inspiration as "you and I," changing nations and changing lives.
Time gets an honest hearing in the second verse. Everyone feels "a little bit older" as names and faces pass by, yet the singers insist hearts won't grow colder because one thing never changes. The closing lines admit that we'll never seem to do enough to tell the world about God's love, then answer with a conviction: every soul is worth the fight, and changing one life can change the world.
The emphasis on small, near acts of care lines up with Galatians 6:2 on carrying one another's burdens, Matthew 25:40 on serving the least of these, and the single lost sheep of Luke 15:4-7.
[Verse 1]
Restless heart
Wait a little while longer
Heaven is holding out for you still
Lay your hand on somebody's shoulder
While you're here show someone you care...
Show them you're there
[Chorus]
Inspiration is you and i
Changing nations
Changing lives
[Verse 2]
We all feel just a little bit older
As names and faces are passing us by
But there is a reason
Our hearts won't grow colder
There is one thing that won't ever change...
It's always the same
[Bridge]
Seems we'll never do enough
To tell the world about God's love
But every soul is worth the fight
'Cause we can change the world
By changing just one life
