Promise Blender

Skillet's "Promise Blender" traces a life of vows made and vows broken, opening with a boyhood vision of God's face and a first promise that took years to understand as love. The confession at the center is blunt and doubled: the singer names himself both the promise maker and the promise breaker, and on the road to faithfulness he admits he sometimes forgets God's name even while he can still see that face. Time after time, though, a voice calls his name back. The turn comes when he kneels for what he calls the last time, offering a final promise and bracing for the tears he could cry daily — and instead of accusation, what he hears is that God is the promise taker, the one who gathers every broken vow and puts them in a promise blender. The repeated "keeper, keeper, keeper" answers the earlier "maker/breaker" refrain, and the closing lines move from his own failure to being taken, owned, bought and loved. It is a song about human inconsistency met by a God who keeps what we cannot.
