Skillet's "Rise" opens on a world of "shattered pieces" that the singer refuses to hide, and the verses keep cataloguing the violence of modern life: bulletproof vests, car bombs, a 911 call with a mother shouting at her kids to get under the table. The song doesn't soften any of it. Instead, the chorus turns that litany into a rallying cry — "sound it off, this is the call" — pairing the word "rise" with "revolution" and a demand to "unite and fight to make a better life."
