All I Have is Christ

Sovereign Grace Music's “All I Have Is Christ” tells a conversion in three short verses, framed by a chorus of hallelujahs. The first verse is blunt about the starting point: “I once was lost in darkest night, yet thought I knew the way.” Sin “promised joy and life” and “had led me to the grave,” and the singer had “no hope” that God would own “a rebel to Your will.” The verse closes with the line that sets the doctrine, “if You had not loved me first, I would refuse You still.”

The second verse supplies the rescue. “As I ran my hell-bound race, indifferent to the cost, You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the cross.” There he saw love displayed, as the Savior “suffered in my place” and “bore the wrath reserved for me,” so that “now all I know is grace.” The last verse is the response, asking to be “Yours alone,” admitting that strength to obey “could never come from me,” and ending, “my only boast is You.”

Loving first is 1 John 4:19, and Christ dying for sinners is Romans 5:8. Boasting only in the Savior is Galatians 6:14.
