His Mercy is More

Matt Boswell and Matt Papa build this hymn around a single repeated contrast — sin measured against mercy, and mercy always winning the comparison. "Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore, our sins they are many, His mercy is more" pictures Micah 7:19's promise that God will "cast all their sins into the depths of the sea," an image of complete removal rather than partial forgiveness.

The chorus's claim that mercy is "stronger than darkness, new every morning" lifts Lamentations 3:22 almost directly — a book written from the ruins of Jerusalem, mercy affirmed from inside genuine devastation rather than comfortable circumstances. "His blood was the payment, His life was the cost" keeps the hymn from treating mercy as something casual; the final verse names the actual price before returning, one more time, to the same refrain.
