How Vast The Love

Sovereign Grace Music structures "How Vast The Love" as a set of instructions before it becomes a statement of praise: "come gaze upon your Savior... draw near in awe and wonder." The verses are addressed outward, walking the listener toward the cross rather than describing it from a distance.

The chorus doesn't settle for one adjective — "how deep, how wide, how long... how sure, how sweet, how strong" stacks six different angles on the same love, as if no single word can hold it. That repetition across two full chorus statements is doing real work, not just filling space.

The later verses shift from adoration to argument: "His blood cries, 'It is finished!' Our life is in His name," followed by a direct question — "what now can separate us? Can death or pain or fear?" The song answers its own question with assurance rather than certainty about circumstances, closing on the promise that "thus far His love has led us" and will keep leading all the way home.
