Let Us Be Known

Two languages share this short song, and its message is the same in both. The Spanish opening asks that "la alegría sea nuestro motor" ("joy be our engine") in every place and heart, and that our lives be able "abundar en esperanza," a phrase from Romans 15:13. Then the English lines turn the idea into a plain request: "Let us be known by our love."

Concrete behavior is spelled out next. "Let every word and every deed honor the Son" calls on 1 Corinthians 10:31, and "let our light shine in every eye" borrows from Matthew 5:16. The title line follows John 13:35, where love is the mark by which others will know Jesus' followers.

A Trinitarian doxology repeats under the main request: "For the glory of the Father, for the glory of the Son, for the glory of the Spirit." The wording is direct and the music repeats the lines like a prayer. Not much else happens in the lyric, so the whole song remains a short, repeated petition that love be the way Christians are recognized.
