Everywhere You Go
Song Meaning
Third Day's “Everywhere You Go” is a rock song about following Jesus. The first verse is a statement of resolve: nothing can stop the singer, no one can keep him from the road he is on this time, and he will do whatever it takes to make it.
The second verse tells why. He did not know what he was missing until he met the Lord, and now he has been given a second chance and he will take it. The chorus is the prayer in the title, saying that wherever God goes he wants to go, asking to be taken along and to be at his side wherever he leads. He also wants to love everyone God loves, just as God loves him. The final section returns to determination, saying it does not matter how long the road takes, he will keep moving even if it breaks him, and he will never turn around because he has found where he is going. Mac Powell's gravelly voice carries the earnest lines, and the guitars give the song a driving feel suited to a road trip or a youth event. The lyrics treat discipleship as staying close to a person rather than keeping a list of rules. That makes the song useful for new believers and for anyone who has drifted and wants to start again.
Serving and following where he is is John 12:26. Asking to be shown his ways is Psalm 25:4-5, and following daily is Luke 9:23.
I am not gonna change my mind
No one can keep me from the road that I'm on this time
No matter what, I'm going to do what it takes to make it
I didn't know what I was missing 'til I met you
I never even thought to listen
No, I never knew
And now you've given me a second chance and I'll take it
So here I am, Lord, I want to be where You are
I need You now, won't You show me the way
Everywhere You go, I wanna go
Will You take me with You
Everywhere you lead, I wanna be by your side
Everyone you love, I wanna love
Just like you love me
Everywhere you go, I wanna go there with you
It doesn't matter how long this is gonna take me
I'm gonna keep on moving even if it breaks me
I'll never turn around
I have found where I am going
