O Come All Ye Faithful

TobyMac keeps John Francis Wade's eighteenth-century carol close to its Latin-hymn roots — 'O sing, choirs of angels, O sing in exultation' — while adding a bridge that reframes the whole song as an active choice rather than a spectator's observation: 'gonna lift, gonna lift His name on high.' The original hymn's imperative mood ('O come,' 'come let us adore Him') already pointed toward participation, and the addition just makes the commitment explicit and personal.

'Come and behold Him, born the King of angels' echoes Hebrews 1:6's command, 'let all the angels of God worship him' — even the angels themselves are drawn into worshiping the child they're announcing. 'When Love reached down to all of mankind, born of a virgin on a starry night' compresses Luke 2:11's announcement of a Savior born in the city of David into TobyMac's own more contemporary phrasing, keeping the theological content intact even as the vocabulary around it changes.
