Somebody's Watching

The first verse describes a lot of talk: "suggestions, questions, people want to know," words twisted "that I've never even said" and a story spreading through phones. TobyMac does not answer in kind. Instead the hook turns being watched into a comfort: "I always feel like somebody's watchin' me... He got my back. See, I'm down with the King, so I got it like that."

Between the pressure and the hook, two quiet lines carry the faith. "Sometimes I feel God in the middle of the night, in the cool of the shade, in the bright sunlight" places God's presence at every hour, close to Psalm 139:7 and Psalm 121:5, where the Lord is a keeper at your side. A later pair adds "sometimes I feel Grace in the middle of the night" and "sometimes I feel God in the midst of a show."

In the second verse the tone turns defiant, with a promise to never doubt his destiny. He is "stickin' to my guns like a son of the Light," the language of Ephesians 5:8, and he claims "feelin' Daddy in the air tonight." The song keeps the rattled start and the calm refrain side by side, with the watching Presence as the answer to the gossip.
