Song Meaning

Vineyard Worship's “Humble King” begins on bended knee. “Oh, kneel me down again, here at Your feet, show me how much You love humility.” The singer asks the Spirit to be the star that leads him “to the humble heart of love I see in You.” The picture comes from the nativity, where the star guided travelers to a child instead of a palace.

The chorus names the one he is looking for: “You are the God of the broken, friend of the weak, You wash the feet of the weary, embrace the ones in need.” That leads to a personal wish, “I want to be like You, Jesus, to have this heart in me,” and the title phrase, “You are the humble King.” The last verse returns to the stable setting, with the singer bowing in the dust “with kings” where wise men once laid their offerings. He brings no golden crown, only “this my broken life I offer thee.”

Washing the feet of the weary is John 13:5, when Jesus washes his disciples' feet. The wise men with gifts are Matthew 2:11, and the humility of the King follows Philippians 2:8.

Oh kneel me down again,

Here at Your feet

Show me how much You love humility

Oh Spirit be the star that leads me to

The humble heart of love I see in You

You are the God of the broken

Friend of the weak;

You wash the feet of the weary

Embrace the ones in need

I want to be like you Jesus

To have this heart in me

You are the God of the humble,

You are the humble King.

Here in the dusty ground

I bow with kings

Where wise men laid before their offerings

I lay no golden crown here at your feet

Just this my broken life I offer thee
