Just To Be With You

Homesickness drives the opening verse of We Are Messengers' song. The narrator admits "I don't belong," wants only a home, and doesn't know how to get there. Memory supplies the destination: stony grey soil, cool soft days, and rain felt "like a kiss on my face." Each detail pulls toward a place where "the world was in its place."

The chorus turns longing into resolve, repeating "I'll cross the world" three times before landing on the reason, "just to be with you." Later lines describe walking through hills "in the land of old" and running through fields "that look like stories I've told," so the journey feels as much remembered as imagined. The third verse admits that everything changes while still wishing it hadn't, thanks God for the good times, and blames the devil for a "shipwrecked heart" and lonely days.

Who the "you" is stays unnamed, though the line "I heard you call" frames the pursuit as an answer to a summons. That reading fits the psalmist's thirst for God and his wish to dwell in the Lord's presence.
