This is Jesus
Song Meaning
We Are Messengers wrote “This Is Jesus” as a Christmas song that keeps the story close to the cross. The first verse paints the night, “Night of wonder, still and silent, heaven's brilliance from above, light of glory pierced the darkness, mercy pierced my heart with love.” The singer then names who has arrived: “This is Jesus, King of glory, here to rescue from the fall.”
The chorus describes him as “Son of God who comes to save us, Prince of peace and Lord of all.” The second verse marvels at the humility of the nativity: “Oh the mystery, who could fathom God would leave His holy throne for a manger, for a sinner, for us all to be His own.” The refrain calls for joy, “Rejoice, He is with us, rejoice, hope is here.” The final verse speaks of “hearts so prone to wander” and “feet so quick to flee,” and says that God is here and love is “reaching for the lost and least of these.” The tone is quiet and personal, with the incarnation understood as a rescue.
The announcement of a Savior is Luke 2:11. God leaving his throne to take human form is Philippians 2:6-7, and the Prince of Peace is named in Isaiah 9:6.
Still and silent
Heaven's brilliance from above
Light of glory
Pierced the darkness
Mercy pierced my heart with love
This is Jesus
King of glory
Here to rescue from the fall
Son of God who
Comes to save us
Prince of peace and Lord of all
Oh the mystery
Who could fathom
God would leave His Holy throne
For a manger
For a sinner
For us all to be His own
This is Jesus
King of glory
Here to rescue from the fall
Son of God who
Comes to save us
Prince of peace and Lord of all
Rejoice He is with us
Rejoice Hope is here
Rejoice He is with us
Rejoice Hope is here
Rejoice He is with us
Rejoice Hope is here
Rejoice He is with us
Rejoice Hope is here
This is Jesus
King of glory
Here to rescue from the fall
Son of God who
Comes to save us
Prince of peace and Lord of all
For the hearts so
Prone to wander
For these feet so quick to flee
God is here and
Love is reaching
For the lost and least of these
