Point To You

We Are Messengers' “Point To You” opens with four hard questions: “How can I forgive when I can't forgive myself, how can I move on when all I have is regret?” Others follow about turning away from God and getting past the noise of shame. The pre-chorus asks for what is needed, “a miracle, some healing for my heart,” “a revelation, a brand new start.”

The singer comes to God honestly. “I know You want my heart, my bruises and my scars, I'm coming as I am, the only way I can.” The chorus gives the song's title and its answer, with the memory of what he was rescued from. “When they ask me who I owe my whole life to, I point to You.” The second verse refuses a quick fix and an “emotional sell,” promising to be honest about being imperfect, and the closing line reframes a charge against him: “People say that I've lost myself, I'll say I'm found in You.”

A request for a clean heart and a new start is Psalm 51:10. The new beginning is 2 Corinthians 5:17, and release from shame and condemnation is Romans 8:1.
