Because He Lives

Belief is the first verb in the song: "I believe in the Son, I believe in the Risen One, I believe I overcome by the power of His blood." The confession leads into a chorus of affirmation, "Amen, amen, I'm alive, I'm alive because He lives," which recalls John 14:19, where Jesus says "because I live, you also will live." The overcoming by blood echoes Revelation 12:11.

The second verse tells the story. "I was dead in the grave, I was covered in sin and shame, I heard mercy call my name, He rolled the stone away." Being dead and made alive is the idea of Ephesians 2:1, and the rolled-away stone is the scene in Matthew 28:2. The chorus then asks, "let my song join the one that never ends."

The bridge names the result: "Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because He lives every fear is gone. I know He holds my life, my future in His hand." The title phrase gets the last word. At about 695 characters, the lyric is short, and the song is a simple chain of verse, chorus and bridge around that one reason for hope.
