Just Breathe

William Murphy opens "Just Breathe" with an instruction aimed at the body before the mind — "let the weight roll off your shoulders, don't let yesterday define today" — and "cause new mercy becomes day by day, the tears don't last always" borrows Lamentations' language of renewal directly.

"Oh the places you'll go, when you let God be God, let him defy the odds" turns permission into possibility, and "God knows the plans" repeats Jeremiah's own promise as the reason the earlier instruction to breathe is even reasonable to follow. "Surrender is the posture, and the key to every door that once was closed" names the actual mechanism behind the song's calm rather than leaving it vague.

"So don't worry you can rest your mind, for the dark can't touch the light" restates the same reassurance in different imagery, and the bridge quotes Psalm 46 nearly word for word — "be still and know that I am God, that I am God" — repeated four times as if the instruction itself needs saying more than once to actually settle. The closing fragments, "I am God... be still and know..." trailing off unfinished, let the song end on the verse it's been building toward rather than a summary of its own argument.
