Varre-Varre
Song Meaning
A woman sweeps her house "com a luz acesa," with the light on, until she finds what was missing, then throws a party. Aline Barros sings the story in Portuguese with a bouncy sing-along rhythm, the repeated "varreu, varreu" (she swept, swept) keeping the scene moving.
A middle section widens the picture: if you have lost your joy, your kindness, your strength, your hope or your patience, "acende a luz e vai varrendo até encontrar," light the lamp and keep sweeping until you find it. The closing line sums up the message: "Quem busca acha o que perdeu," whoever seeks finds what was lost.
The scene follows Jesus' parable of the woman who lost a coin, lit a lamp, swept the house and called her neighbors to rejoice (Luke 15:8-10). The song stretches that persistence to anything a person has lost, and Matthew 7:7 on seeking and finding sits comfortably beside it.
E a mulher varreu, varreu!
Com a luz acesa
Ela varreu, varreu!
Ela limpou a sua casa
E encontrando o que faltava
Uma festa ela deu
Não desistiu de procurar, varreu!
Com a luz acesa ela varreu, varreu!
Ela limpou a sua casa
E encontrando o que faltava
Uma festa ela deu
Se perdeu sua alegria
Se perdeu boas maneiras
Se perdeu sua bondade
Acende a luz e vai varrendo até encontrar!
Se perdeu as suas forças
Se perdeu a esperança
Se perdeu a paciência
Acende a luz e vai varrendo
Até encontrar!
Varre, varre, varre, varre, vassourinha
Varre, varre, limpa a casinha
Varre, varre, varre, varre, vassourinha
Quem busca acha o que perdeu
Varre, varre, varre, varre, vassourinha
Varre, varre, limpa a casinha
Varre, varre, varre, varre, vassourinha
Quem busca acha o que perdeu
