Digno É O Senhor
Song Meaning
Gratitude leads in this Portuguese worship song, which begins with "Graças eu te dou, Pai, pelo preço que pagou" ("I give You thanks, Father, for the price You paid"). The cost is named plainly as a "sacrifício de amor que me comprou," a sacrifice of love that bought the singer, much as 1 Corinthians 6:20 describes being "bought with a price."
The second part gets specific about the cross: "pelos cravos em tuas mãos" (for the nails in Your hands), and the results are listed in order. His sacrifice "lavou minha mente e coração" (washed my mind and heart), gave forgiveness and "restaurou-me a comunhão," which restored the relationship. The nails recall Colossians 2:14, where the record of debt is nailed to the cross.
The refrain declares "Digno é o Senhor" (worthy is the Lord) and pictures Him on the throne as sovereign creator, then ends with hands raised "to the Christ who overcame." "Cordeiro de Deus morreu por mim, mas ressuscitou" (the Lamb of God died for me, but rose again) joins John 1:29 and Revelation 5:12.
Graças eu te dou, Pai
Pelo preço que pagou
Sacrifício de amor
Que me comprou
Ungido do Senhor
Pelos cravos em tuas mãos
Graças eu te dou, ó meu Senhor
Lavou minha mente e coração
Me deu perdão
Restaurou-me a comunhão
Digno é o Senhor
Sobre o trono está
Soberano, criador
Vou sempre te adorar
Elevo minhas mãos
Ao Cristo que venceu
Cordeiro de Deus morreu por mim
Mas ressuscitou
Digno é o Senhor
