Creation Sings

All Sons and Daughters' “Creation Sings” is a brief song of praise built on a line the apostle Paul spoke in Athens. It begins, “In You we live, in You we move, in You we have our being,” and then widens its view to every nation and all the earth, where “this song of ours is rising.”

The center of the song is the idea that praise is not limited to people. All creation sings God's glory, and the repeated phrase “sings Your glory, God” gives the congregation a simple line to take up. The final lines move into the language of the Trinity, giving glory to the Father, to the Son and to the Spirit, who was and is to come. That ending echoes older doxologies and gives the modern folk arrangement a link to historic worship. With so few words, the song leaves much of its meaning to the melody and to repetition, and it is easy to teach to a room. It works well as a call to worship or a quiet response after a reading, when a church wants to remember that its singing joins something larger than itself. The mood is reverent but warm, and it invites people to listen for the sound already filling the world.

Living and moving in God is Acts 17:28. The earth and its creatures praising him is Psalm 148:7, and every creature giving glory is Revelation 5:13.
