Is He Worthy?

Chris Tomlin structures "Is He Worthy?" as a call-and-response built directly on Revelation 5 — the vision of a scroll no one in heaven or earth is found worthy to open, until "the Lion of Judah, who conquered the grave" is revealed as both David's promised root and "the Lamb who died to ransom the slave." Each verse poses a question the congregation answers in unison: does the Father love us, does the Spirit move among us, does Jesus hold forever those he loves — turning doctrine into something sung as agreement rather than just stated as fact. The song deliberately builds tension before resolving it: verses describe a broken world and deepening shadows, then ask whether anyone is worthy or whole enough to fix it, before finally naming who that someone is. The closing lines — "he has made us a kingdom and priests to God, to reign with the Son" — extend the song past Christ's worthiness alone into what his followers become as a result, echoing the same vision's language about a redeemed people gathered from "every people and tribe, every nation and tongue." By the final repetitions of "He is," the question the whole song opened with has become a settled answer, sung rather than merely believed.
