It’s Christmas time again
Snow is on the ground
It’s parties with your friends
And Family coming round
Laughter fills the halls
And children start to sing
Lights begin to glow
And memories repeat
The fire’s burning bright
The carols fill the air
The wonder of that holy night
A love beyond compare
The story old and true
Still shining through the years
It’s Christmas time again
And heaven’s drawing near
The lights are on the tree
The stockings hanging low
We gather close to see
The snow begin to fall
The fire’s burning bright
The carols fill the air
The wonder of that holy night
A love beyond compare
The story old and true
Still shining through the years
It’s Christmas time again
And heaven’s drawing near
Every gift and every song
Reminds our hearts again
That peace on earth was born that night
And hope will never end
The fire’s burning bright
The carols fill the air
The wonder of that holy night
A love beyond compare
The story old and true
Still shining through the years
It’s Christmas time again
And heaven’s drawing near
It’s Christmas time again
It's Christmas Time Again
Song Meaning
Chris Tomlin sketches a family Christmas in small domestic strokes: snow on the ground, parties with friends, relatives "coming round," laughter in the halls, children singing, stockings hanging low and lights on the tree. Each detail is warm and ordinary, and the verses linger on gathering close rather than on any grand claim.
The refrain lifts the view above the living room. Under the firelight and carols sits "the wonder of that holy night," described as "a love beyond compare" and a "story old and true" that keeps "shining through the years." The line "heaven's drawing near" ties the seasonal scene to the nativity rather than leaving it as décor.
The closing verse names the point: every gift and song reminds hearts "that peace on earth was born that night, and hope will never end." That language follows the angels' announcement in Luke 2, and the song ends by returning to its opening line, as though the season itself keeps coming back to the same good news.
